Recovery and Rebuild
What are BCAA's?
BCAA's, or branch chain amino acids, fuel your muscles during training. When you drink BCAA's, it helps to preserve your glycogen. Glycogen is what your body uses for fuel. When you have an abundant amount of glycogen stored, your body doesn't break down your muscle for energy.
There are a total of nine essential amino acids. They are essential because the body cannot make them. They must be ingested by the foods we eat. The three that are found in BCAAs are leucine, valine, and isoleucine. While most amino acids are broken down in the liver, BCAAs are mostly metabolized in the muscle tissue. This is why BCAAs are used by athletes. Several studies have suggested that BCAAs increase muscle mass and strength during training. Studies also suggest that it can aid in the repair or muscle tissue.
BCAA's can be drank before, during, and after a workout. Many people will mix them with their water or sport drink.*
